About Award Winning Authors Roger and Mala Burt Authors of A Dream Across Time and A Circle of Dreams
A Dream Across Time, the award winning first book in the Demontagne Saga, grew out of the Burts fascination with the colorful people and the mystical elements they encountered in the Caribbean. They are partners in marriage and work and decided to craft their novels as a joint project. Their pen name, Annie Rogers, is a juxtaposition of Malas middle name and Rogers first name.
Their adventure began in June 1987 when they innocently went on vacation to St. Lucia in the West Indies. Entranced by Paradise they built a home and a Caribbean travel business soon followed. Their immersion in the region and fascination with the people they met and the stories they heard have been artfully woven into their novels.
With backgrounds as a psychologist and clinical social worker respectively, both Roger and Mala were married previously, each bringing two children to their second marriage. The challenges in their remarriage led them to become nationally recognized experts in stepfamily relationships and problems.
Their previous publications have been works of nonfiction and include Whats Special About Our Stepfamily? (Doubleday, 1983) and their seminal work, Stepfamilies: The Step By Step Model of Brief Therapy (Bruner/Mazel, Inc. 1996). As experts in the field of stepfamilies, they have appeared on national TV programs such as Oprah, and been interviewed extensively for newspaper and magazines as well as on NPR.
With changes in the mental health field, the Burts chose to close their joint clinical practice specializing in helping stepfamilies and open a specialty travel business. But now they are devoting full time to their writing. Recently they received a Book of the Year Award from ForeWord Magazine at Book Expo America in Washington, D.C for their debut novel A Dream Across Time.
The second book in the Saga, A Circle of Dreams, was recently published with the third book in the series, Joup!, set to be released in January 2007. The Burts live in St. Michaels,MD.
